The final push.
The geopolitical and geo-economic forces wrought by the coronavirus pandemic are likely to slow the transition to a more sustainable global energy mix. To push ahead, governments will need to go beyond simply devoting stimulus funds to cleaner energy, however welcome that is. Ultimately, policies will be more important than government spending in creating an environment in which all actors have sufficient incentive to advance the energy transition.
In lockdown, people made conscious decisions to make greener choices- to choose green energy, less disposable plastic and the fact everyone was stuck at home meant there was less fossil fuel being burned the world over. As we try to keep these standards up, perhaps we need to look at it in a different way to make a real difference.
